Bologna, August 4th, 2010 - Datalogic, through its subsidiary Datalogic Scanning, has signed an agreement with Guglielmo Marconi airport in Bologna to automate the control process of boarding passes in the security check area.

Thanks to this application, access control is quicker and safer. Using the radio bar code readers PowerScan PM8500 by Datalogic Scanning, operators in charge of controlling access to the flight gates read the PDF code on the passengers' boarding pass (issued at the check-in desk, or printed-off at home via the Internet or received on the passenger's mobile phone).

The code is then sent to the host system that returns a message to the reader, consequently triggering a light on the display. Depending on the colour of the light - green, yellow or red - the security operator is either authorized to allow the passenger through for the final security check before boarding or to refuse access if the flight has been cancelled, has already taken off, the boarding gate has closed and so forth.

This solution proves particularly useful in the month of August, when the airport has to face the traditional summer holiday traffic peak in the best way possible: An estimated 8500 passengers and more a day do indeed cross the security gates in Marconi airport.

Luca Voltolini, Security Director of Marconi airport, said: "This innovative solution is perfect for the modern standards of security in airports and ensures stricter access control, speeds-up boarding and also saves money. In addition, there are consequent benefits for operators, whose work is simplified, and for passengers, whose waiting times are shorter".

Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic, declared: "We are truly proud to have signed this agreement with Guglielmo Marconi airport in Bologna, which confirms our company as a privileged partner of the most important Italian airports. The high level of quality and safety that Datalogic is able to guarantee in fulfilling innovative technological solutions that satisfy the requirements of its customers is confirmed yet again, especially for such complex and delicate applications, as is the correct boarding management of millions of passengers. Our ability to provide such cutting edge solutions derives from our constant focus on the research and development of new technologies designed to improve many aspects of daily routines. This again is why Datalogic is the ideal partner for those who make quality and efficient service their strongholds".

Bologna, July 22nd 2010 – Datalogic Group, a leader on the market of barcode readers, data collection mobile computers, RFID and vision systems, through its subsidiary Datalogic Automation, has realized thirty omnidirectional reading tunnels to improve baggage handling for the “Leonardo da Vinci” airport in Rome, Fiumicino (the biggest Italian airport with four terminals and over 33 million passengers a year).

Thanks to the Group’s outstanding technological know-how, Datalogic has been called upon by ADR (Airports of Rome) to guarantee an even more efficient baggage handling system and to increase the level of passenger services, developing a baggage tracking project starting from the hold of the aircraft through to handover to the passenger.

Datalogic has created a reading station for baggage handover and pick-up points in all the airport terminals, thus managing to gather useful data on each piece of baggage and to monitor its movements. Once the baggage is on the conveyor belt, it follows a set route where it goes through various reading phases of the Datalogic scanners that send it to the correct destination, simultaneously monitoring the performance of the baggage handling system from when they are unloaded from the aircraft.

To guarantee a correct and quicker baggage handling and consignment process, Datalogic Automation has supplied a customised solution made up of thirty omnidirectional reading tunnels, over 270°, of the IATA barcode, for a total of 200 laser scanners, series 8000, and 30 controllers type SC6000, exploiting technologically unique applications for the Fiumicino airport, such as the following:

- DS8100A and DX8200A the most powerful barcode readers on the market;
- ACR™ (Automatic Code Reconstruction) a system that obtains the full code starting from partial readings;
- ASTRA™ (Automatically SwiTched Reading Area) that ensures maximum reading area depth thanks to the autofocus system;
- PackTrack™ that assigns the code to each single piece of baggage correctly, even when the items to be identified are very close together.

Thanks to this project, Datalogic Automation consolidates its standing on the Italian airport market, where it supplies all the major airports, from Milan, Bergamo and Turin, to Venice, Pisa and Palermo, in addition, amongst others, to the European airports of Barcelona and the Hongqiao airport in Shanghai.

Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic S.p.A., commented: “We are particularly proud to have signed this partnership with the largest airport in Italy, which what’s more, represents a successful alliance made 100% in Italy. This confirms, yet again, the high quality standards that Datalogic is able to guarantee in fulfilling innovative and technological solutions to meet its customers’ needs, especially in complex and delicate applications, as is the baggage management of millions of passengers. Our proficiency in supplying such cutting edge solutions derives from the constant attention we pay to research and development of new technologies designed to improve many aspects of daily life. For this reason too, Datalogic is the ideal partner for those who aim at making quality and service proficiency their strongholds”.

Bologna, July 20th, 2010 - Carrefour, the largest retailer in Europe and the second largest retailer in the world, once again teams up with Datalogic through its subsidiary Datalogic Mobile, one of the world leaders in the mobile computer industry, for the supply of mobile computers in its retail stores. This time, the Memor™ and Falcon® handheld devices will be used for Carrefour's retail in-store solutions.

Thanks to Datalogic Mobile's extensive experience and capability of satisfying even the most challenging requirements in the retail market, its latest contract with Carrefour has been renewed for the next three years.

Datalogic Mobile can now add the Memor™ and Falcon® to the list of mobile computers sold to Carrefour since 2004. These mobile computers will be used for various applications on the shop floor and in the back room, such as inventory and shelf replenishment, reducing error rates significantly and also for a new application giving more "mobility" inside the store. In fact, during the testing phase, Datalogic Mobile's solution proved to be the most accurate and reliable and will now extend to the over 30 countries involved in this collaboration. This, along with Datalogic Scanning's in-store solution using presentation scanners, handheld devices and fixed position scanners, will now cover the entire Carrefour Group chain.

Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic S.p.A. thus commented: "This agreement signed with a world player like Carrefour confirms Datalogic's capability of supplying technological solutions that stand out on the market for their high performance, ease of use and absolute reliability. Datalogic's solutions guarantee our customer's fidelity, as this important contract with the Carrefour Group demonstrates. This world leader has renewed its trust in us and we are sure that it will be fully satisfied with the results our solutions provide".

Bologna, June 22th, 2010 - The effective exploitation of intangible assets and of industrial property in particular (patents, brands, drawings and models) represents an increasingly important source of competitive business advantage. On this subject, it becomes ever more decisive to assess the economic return that can be drawn from such instruments.

It was indeed on this important topic that Datalogic S.p.A. participated in the workshop entitled "How to evaluate and exploit patents? Business methods and experience" held last June 18th and organized by the "Innovami" centre in collaboration with the University of Bologna and with CNA Emilia Romagna.

The workshop aimed at providing an overview of the various existing methods for the economic evaluation of patents, with special focus on the approach developed by the Italian Patents and Trademark Department, the Italian Banking Association, the Industrialists Association and the Conference of Chancellors of Italian Universities for the evaluation of patents of small and medium enterprises.

In particular, Datalogic took part in the initiative organized for businessmen, researchers, consultants and professionals involved in this industry with a speech on the evaluation of company patents to optimize in-house management.

First and foremost, Datalogic's evidence - illustrated by Beatrice Parenti, Intellectual Property Supervisor of Datalogic - explained why it is important for the company to preside the evaluation of the patents owned by Datalogic Group as a whole: to monitor the technological areas mostly involved and the use of patented technology on products; to constantly update the drivers for the patenting strategy (geographic areas, technological fields) as well as to support the Management in its strategic assessments related to patent purchasing, selling, licensing and enforcement.

Furthermore, Datalogic also illustrated the general methods exploited to evaluate patents. Evaluation also includes the use of a tool devised specifically for Datalogic and that is used to monitor aspects of greater interest for a patent (technological value, economic value and strategic value).

Bologna, June 18th, 2010 - Datalogic hosted the periodic meeting of the Technical-Scientific Committee of CRIT Research™ at the Headquarters of its Datalogic Automation division on June 10th this year. This important meeting was summoned to discuss updates on the Committee's activities and to assess the suggested joint activities concerning technological innovation of shared merit.

CRIT Research™ is a technological broker specialising in the strategic management of innovation processes whose purpose is that of assisting enterprises in innovation and in transferring technology, acting as a technological interface between the industry and local and worldwide research centres; it helps enterprises to identify innovation requirements right through to substantially implementing the technology involved. It was set-up 10 years ago thanks to a group of companies in Bologna and Modena, among which Datalogic; the ideas and incentives of Romano Volta, chairman of Datalogic, and of Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, chairman of Ferrari, who were the chairmen of the local industrialists associations at the time (of Bologna and Modena respectively) were very important for kicking-off the initiative.

The meeting opened with the greeting speech of Giancarlo Micheletti, CTO of Datalogic Group and ended with a speech of Prof. Luigi Di Stefano, Associate Professor of DEIS (Department of Electronics) of the Engineering faculty of Bologna and director of COMPUTER VISION LAB (CV-LAB), who discussed the topics of Artificial Vision in detail, highlighting technological development and also the economic aspects that are driving various companies to invest in this industry, thanks to reductions in the costs of the production processes guaranteed by the effectiveness of the vision systems, in terms of both the control and quality of the end result.

The meeting also offered an opportunity to confirm the board of the Technical Management Committee of CRIT, of which Daniele Fiorini is a member (Platform and Technology Director of Datalogic Automation). The committee consists of 7 members who have the task of deciding the technological areas on which the consortium's activities are to be focused: among the initiatives promoted by Datalogic, is a forthcoming meeting to discuss the communication standards between the various products and systems at an industrial level.

For further information on CRIT Research™: http://www.crit-research.it/en/home.htm.

Bologna, May 28th, 2010 - Datalogic Group, through its subsidiary Datalogic Mobile, has supplied the Hospital Centre/University campus of Tours (CHRU), in France, with an innovative data management solution to make cancer treatment more efficient. This hospital structure is able to provide medical care to over 65.000 patients each year.

With a pharmaceutical unit that produces 25.000 chemotherapy treatments each year, the Tours hospital is a top quality centre in which the chemical substances used during chemotherapy (cytotoxics) are handled in a controlled environment, where a specific procedure is applied to control all the preparation phases of the pharmaceuticals, as well as numerous monitoring measures of the production process. At CHRU (Tours), these activities are managed entirely by the main computerised system in order to guarantee complete traceability of the preparation process, from the prescription stage right through to delivery to the patient.

Datalogic's mobile computers are at the heart of this solution, assuring mobility to doctors and to those in charge of preparing and delivering the pharmaceuticals, following the operational protocol implemented by the hospital with precision and also constantly updating the case history of each patient.
Thanks to Datalogic MemorTM, medical operators remain linked to the main computerised system of the hospital constantly throughout the whole preparation cycle of the treatments, while the handheld terminals Datalogic SkorpioTM are used for delivery operations and for registering the signature of the person commissioned to receive the pharmaceutical.
What's more, the handheld terminal, Datalogic StorpioTM, guarantees that the procedures are carried out in an exact chronological order and that the operator is personally identified before starting them. Once identified, the operator may access all the information necessary, the processing stage of the treatment and the specific requirements of the patient from the handheld terminal by scanning the code written on the preparation. Thanks to the mobile computers, Datalogic SkorpioTM, the pharmaceuticals are delivered and administered to the patient without the possibility of hospital personnel making mistakes, by confirming receipt and delivery of the pharmaceutical following the administration criteria written on the screen of the handheld terminal.

Doctor Tournamille, chemist of CHRU Tours, explains in detail that:
"The traceability system saves us a great amount of time in both the production phase and the distribution phase of chemotherapy treatments. Datalogic's mobile computers enable total mobility, which is appreciated by our staff members in particular and above all they allow us to control each phase in real time and to trace all the operations related to the treatment of a certain patient. Our security has increased and with it the security of our patients".

Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic Group commented:
"We signed this significant partnership with one of the most advanced hospital centres of France thanks to the technological proficiency developed by Datalogic in data management. It is a clear example of how investing in Research and Development also means satisfying demands in fields where no errors whatsoever are admitted, as indeed is the case of the medical field. We have found an ideal partner in the Tours hospital, as it is open to innovation and capable of realising solutions that improve the treatment processes and, what's more important, the health of patients".

Bologna, April 20, 2010 - Datalogic Group, through its subsidiary Datalogic Mobile, strengthens its partnership with Coop Adriatica, a leading retailer with 156 supermarkets and hypermarkets spread over Italy, under the agreement for the supply of 1,000 Datalogic Joya™ pods.

Joya™, the next generation pod for shopping designed by Datalogic, will be used at 6 Coop Adriatica stores, replacing older technology systems. Thanks to this innovative technology, Datalogic marks an important achievement with Coop Adriatica, which, thanks to solutions provided by this company in Bologna, can now guarantee customers a convenient, fast and interactive shopping experience.

The benefits of using Joya™ are many, starting with the fact that the products chosen by the consumer may be placed in bags directly inside the cart, as desired. The goods do not need to be transferred to the belt at check-out, ensuring prompt payment. Therefore, Coop members no longer need to wait in line thanks to the dedicated workstations at self-service payment.

Joya™ allows the customer to view the total shopping expenditure in real time with constant updating of the sales invoice. It also shows promotional items that are on sale in the store.

Thanks to Datalogic's services, Coop Adriatica can increase its competitiveness and attract new customers that are always more loyal, due to their satisfaction with the shopping experience and added value provided by Joya™, such as its information service and fast payment which it can guarantee.

This agreement confirms Datalogic's leadership in the Retail field, with installations in over 350 sales points between Italy (Coop, Conad, Carrefour, Auchan, Esselunga, Lombardini, Finiper Conad and E. Leclerc), France (Groupe Casino , ATAC and Carrefour) and Belgium (Delhaize Group and Carrefour). This shows the importance of market and customer knowledge, as well as the strong propensity towards innovation and constant and continuous growth.

Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic Group, declared: "This newly-signed agreement further strengthens Datalogic's partnership with Coop. In fact, Salvatempo perfectly meets the needs of Coop's current clients and members, who appreciate more and more solutions that offer faster operation, while providing information at the same time, such as content and promotional offers to make the shopping experience informative, interactive and fun. This is made possible by Datalogic's continuous commitment in R&D technology solutions which are unique to the market, capable of simplifying and improving life in general".

Bologna, April 15th, 2010 - "Managing complexity in the medium-sized enterprise: the contribution of integrated Information Technologies. A managerial prospect". This is the title of the survey carried out by SDA Bocconi, the worldwide renown School of Management based in Milan, and organised by IBM, presented on April 15th in Bologna and in which Datalogic was the leading business case studied.

A research project, by Severino Meregalli and Gianluca Salviotti from SDA Bocconi, that studied Datalogic Group for approximately a year (July 2009 - April 2010), as a significant business case which, thanks to the contribution of integrated Information Technologies achieved major benefits, also in managing the worldwide economic crisis.

It's not by mere chance that the mission of Datalogic Group pivots around information and communication technologies, focusing on products, services and solutions that "make the bond between the physical world of tangible objects and the virtual world of information correlated to them possible, in order to convert physical data into digital data". ICT (Information & Communication Technology) thus has two roles for Datalogic: on one hand, it is a productive factor in what the Group has to offer and on the other it represents a supporting factor of the main processes of the enterprise.

Specifically speaking, the survey highlighted how since 2000, in line with its expansion, Datalogic chose a new ERP system that is able to manage complexity very appropriately. The system chosen was SAP - IBM, which has produced qualitative and quantitative benefits in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and operational reliability, as Mr. Paolo Baldissara explained, Vice President of Datalogic ICT, who spoke at the meeting.
"SAP has enabled us to recover efficiency margins - Mr. Baldissara said - and to monitor business performance rapidly and promptly. All the companies of Datalogic Group do indeed exploit the same information system and avail of an ample and flexible model and just one database that is updated in real time. SAP guarantees mutual group procedures that offer greater visibility of the operations and optimisation of resources using the best systems possible in terms of effectiveness and efficiency (best practices), thanks to integration and consequent reduction in data processing times".

Also in the sphere of managing the recent economic crisis, SAP has held a strategic role for Datalogic. "The benefits deriving from the use of the new ERP system - Mr. Baldissara continued - are many, for both the Group as a whole and for each individual company area. For example, SAP made it possible to increase efficiency in decisional processes right from the very beginning of the crisis, to activate a cost reduction plan worldwide in real time and to manage a new complex organisational model". Hence, the new ERP system has brought about benefits that can be summarised with concepts of control, efficiency, rapidity and flexibility in managing business complexity, especially in times of crisis.

A topic that involves medium-sized enterprises in particular and in which the CEO's of numerous companies attending the event showed great interest and consequently it will be discussed again during another meeting that will be held in Padua on May 13th.

Bologna, April 2010 - Mr. Romano Volta was elected, and readily accepted, during the last meeting of the "Electro-technical and electronic production" section of the Industrialists Association (Unindustria) of Bologna, to act as chairman from June 2010 to June 2014.

"It is with great pleasure - Datalogic's Chairman declared - that I accept the role of Chairman of the "Electro-technical and electronic production" section". This will allow me to continue to give my contribution to the association (which is now Unindustria) with ideas and projects. The association offers the excellence and quality of the services and business cultures of the two original associations - Api Bologna and Confindustria Bologna - also planning innovative products to satisfy the requirements of a global market focused on the competitive scenarios of the future".

Datalogics' role within the industrialists association of Bologna is important in view of the fact that it is a successful enterprise that has expanded skillfully in Italy and worldwide indeed through investments in innovation. To confirm its role of global player and technological leader, last November in Rome, during the "VII Giornata della Ricerca" (VII edition of the Meeting dedicated to Research) organized by the industrialists association, Mr. Romano Volta received the Award in the Large Enterprise category for the 2009 edition of the "Business Innovation Prize".The prize was awarded to Datalogic for "having improved its competitive standing on a strongly innovative market through change management and constant innovation in all the areas of the organization".
"We received this recognition with great satisfaction - Mr. Romano Volta explained - it proves the commitment of every Italian businessman in creating substantial actions that enable our country to expand continuously. Datalogic, today just like over 35 years ago, is a company that has always aimed at investing in innovation and has often even managed to anticipate changes in order to compete on markets across the whole world".

Datalogic does indeed live for Research and Development and, year-in-year-out, continues to invest in innovation. "Datalogic operates on high-tech markets - Mr. Romano Volta added - and has always considered Research and Development as the mainstay for its growth and expansion on the international market right from the very start. The company owns 885 patents worldwide, 8% of its turnover is put back in R&D, over 25 million Euro was spent in Research and Development in 2009 alone and the Group has 8 research centers across the world. These are the substantial facts of innovation for Datalogic, an enterprise that has become a leader on reference markets thanks to its daily commitment in always searching for the best possible technological and managerial solutions achievable".

Bologna, 29 March 2010 - Datalogic Group, a leader on the market of barcode readers, data collection mobile computers, RFID systems and photoelectric devices for industrial automation, has been certified, for the second year running, by the Dutch company CRF as an Excellent Business in the Management of Human Resources. The company from Bologna, this year again, is included in the exclusive group of "Top Employers Italia 2010", standing out in the Italian entrepreneurial scenario as an excellent model in HR management.

What does this prestigious recognition really mean? A total of 25 companies obtained certification from the CRF Institute, which is the international organisation that has been analysing and certifying over 2,500 enterprises around the world since 1991, publishing an esteemed report each year with a reliability rating of 100% from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The companies selected were assessed based on very strict standards established by the "Top Employers HR Best Practices Survey", which examines and meticulously evaluates the Human Resources policies, according to criteria of Training and Development, Career opportunities, Working conditions, Wages and benefits, Company Culture, based on an exclusive process resulting from the international experience of CRF.

Datalogic was acknowledged and certified as a "Top Performer" and obtained impressive marks from the experts of the CRF Institute in all five of the assessment standards. The company achieved excellence in the areas of "Training and Development" and "Working conditions". The Group is thus confirmed as a reference business capable of finding the key elements of its own business culture in growth and participation.

Another important aspect is that in which Datalogic and the other companies certified as "Top Employers Italia 2010" answered the reference questionnaire with precision and transparency, opening their doors to economics journalists of the CRF team: these professionals were given the opportunity to visit all of the company's facilities, from offices to warehouses, canteens and production areas - and they spent a day in the company, getting involved "from the inside" in every aspect. Such availableness proves Datalogic's undisputed transparency and loyalty, appreciated as a key value of its business culture.

"To be recognised by the "Top Employers 2010" organization - Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic S.p.A. pointed out - confirms that Datalogic is first and foremost a business made of people: it has always been so, right from the very start, and this is indeed our stronghold. Datalogic has three main engines: Human Resources, Innovation and International way of thinking. We are a multinational enterprise that is naturally farsighted and that builds its future alongside its own people". "We are convinced that our business culture - Mr. Sacchetto added - merges thanks to strong and constant in-house communications and we are firmly convinced that an effective informative system is what propels enthusiasm and what makes the difference in a company that aims at excellence".

Bologna, March 2010 - Datalogic Group, through its subsidiary Datalogic Scanning, has been chosen by Costa Crociere, the largest Tourist group in Italy for the supply of bar code scanners for the first system in the world for mobile passenger check-in onboard cruisers of Costa Crociere.

Datalogic's solution exploits the "Magellan" omnidirectional imaging presentation scanner at the cruiser access gates. Thanks to Magellan, Costa Crociere operators are able to read the barcodes on the passengers' boarding cards and immediately see their picture acquired prior to boarding on the computer screen: the correctness of the documents can thus be checked in a matter of seconds.
Datalogic's technology therefore drastically cuts passenger check-in and check-out times, which consequently increases the reading performance of crew members by 20%. All these procedures in the past were carried out manually and the operators in charge had to take the passengers' boarding cards and assist them in the reading phase with the dedicated device.

Datalogic has supplied Costa Crociere with 120 scanners, for the whole fleet that comprises a total of 23 cruisers currently in use and 7 on order, operating in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Baltic Sea, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, United Arab Emirates, the Far East and the Indian Ocean.
The Magellan omnidirectional imaging presentation scanner offers excellent technological performance and is able to read all types of barcodes rapidly, even if they are ruined or printed in poor quality. Furthermore, the scanner's compactness and the possibility of reading "hands-free" make it the ideal solution for use in tight spaces and for applications where operators need greater freedom of movement.

Thanks to this product, Costa Crociere confirms itself as an innovative company, always focusing on the quality of passenger services. "The technology of Datalogic - Franco Caraffi said, Reservation & On Board System Director of Costa Crociere - has enabled us to considerably increase the efficiency of the reading systems of Costa boarding card barcodes. This new system has practically done away with queues and our safety and check-in staff can do their job without having to worrying about assisting passengers in reading their boarding cards. I'm convinced that the choice of this device was truly a winning one".

"This new partnership - Mauro Sacchetto pointed out, CEO of Datalogic S.p.A. - yet again proves Datalogic's ability in offering innovative technological solutions and products that fit customer requirements perfectly the whole world round. This is our mission that drives us in our decisions to continue investing constantly in Research and Development, making innovation our lifeblood. Costa Crociere has turned out to be an ideal partner because it makes service excellence one of its strongholds and, thanks to Datalogic, it is able to offer its passengers fast and efficient boarding conditions."

Bologna, Italy, February 12, 2010 - The convention entitled "Destination Vietnam: commercial and investment opportunities" took place on February 11th in Bologna organised by the Industrialists Association of Emilia Romagna, in collaboration with Ucimu and Regione Emilia Romagna. The event was also attended by the Ambassador or the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Italy, Dang Khành Thoai, and the commercial Councillor of the Embassy, Tran Thanh Hai.

Romano Volta, Chairman of the Board of Datalogic S.p.A. gave his speech to attest how Vietnam over recent years has confirmed its excellent standing among the most dynamic economies of the Asian continent. Vietnam has indeed continuously revealed to be a very appealing destination for foreign investments.
It's not by chance that Datalogic has opened a new factory in Saigon, Vietnam, for the design, manufacture and distribution of products for the Asian market. The investment was part of a strategic development project of Datalogic's internationalization and expansion worldwide.

Datalogic developed this project in particular with the end goal being that of strengthening its leadership on the emerging market that is growing strongly in the "Asia Pacific" area. How? On one hand, by increasing sales in that area (from 10% to 25% by 2015) and the competitiveness of specific products, designed and manufactured for this area; on the other hand, by providing after-sales and assistance services to back-up the sales and marketing activities for this striving market.

"With the factory in Saigon - Romano Volta pointed out - Datalogic aims at consolidating its leadership on reference markets through the direct presence in strategic geographic areas of local facilities and resources that take care of the whole life cycle of the product, from its design, fulfillment, distribution and even after-sales assistance".

"The new factory in Vietnam, situated in the High Tech Park of Saigon and specialised in the production, research and development of cutting edge technologies - Romano Volta continued - means that we can achieve the objectives of Datalogic's project: on one hand, specific products for this market at competitive costs are designed, manufactured and distributed in the South East Asian area in these premises, on the other, the premises guarantee after-sales and assistance services to back-up the commercial and marketing activities directly on site".

Hence, this new investment enables the Group to establish close relations with all the stakeholders of the territory, developing products made specifically for the requirements of the customers of this important market of Asia and the Far East.

"Vietnam is developing remarkably and is a strategic location of the whole Asian area - Romano Volta recollected - not to forget that it is also a reliable State that is also able to offer a substantial and winning scenario for investors such as Datalogic". "The new factory and the design centre - Romano Volta concluded - are provided with cutting edge equipment, which proves our efforts in creating a modern and hi-tech company, focussed on future development and consequently on R&D activities".

This project does indeed see Datalogic strongly involved in strengthening and increasing its resources working in Research and Development activities, which has always been one of the Group's main priorities. For this reason, Datalogic is developing important collaboration projects with 4 local Universities and is organising company apprenticeships for colleges and University scholarships: the aim of such actions is that of pin pointing, employing and developing qualified design engineers who are able to develop innovative products for the Asian market.

The survey is carried out yearly and is completed by the readers of the "Business Solutions" magazine, amongst which are important professionals, retailers, distributors and vendors of the reference markets.

Major success for Datalogic Group for the year 2010, winning even greater leadership on the American market, a market that focuses particularly on technology, on the quality of the products, their performance and the service offered.

"We are truly honoured to receive this esteemed recognition for the second year running - Mauro Sacchetto pointed out, CEO of Datalogic Group - Throughout the year that we have just left behind us, Datalogic did indeed focus strongly on the quality of its services and on the constant innovation of its products and processes". "The fact that our business partners have named us yet again the "Best Channel Vendor" - Mr. Sacchetto added - confirms the efficacy of our decisions. What's more, we are particularly satisfied that this recognition was awarded to us in the United States of America, because we have always considered the American market to be strategic and one on which we continue to find significant possibilities of growth."

Bologna, Italy, January 22, 2010 - Great interest in the forum hosted by Datalogic S.p.A. at its conference room in Lippo di Calderara di Reno (Bo). The event was attended by numerous local economists and politicians to talk about business districts and the productive system in these times of crisis. It was an opportunity to discuss the outlooks and the role fulfilled by local administration departments to assist and encourage the development of the territory's economy.

The forum entitled "Economic development in times of crisis" was fostered by the municipal departments of Calderara and Sasso Marconi, in collaboration with the provincial department of Bologna, and elaborated topics such as local taxation, territorial planning and bureaucratic streamlining, suggesting ideas of thought on local public policies.
The event held for local authorities, trade union organisations and business associations won the approval of the numerous attendees and lead to the signing of a programmatic document to outline what the fostering municipal departments will implement throughout 2010.

The welcome speech of the host, Mr. Romano Volta, President of Datalogic S.p.A., was followed by a short greeting of the Councillor of Productive Activities of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Mr. Duccio Campagnoli and the mayors of the two organising municipalities, Mr. Irene Priolo and Mr. Stefano Mazzetti and the Councillor of Productive Activities and Tourism of the Province of Bologna, Mr. Graziano Prantoni.
A debate was later held by Mr. Maurizio Marchesini - President of Unindustria Bologna, Mr. Tiziano Girotti - CNA Bologna, Mr. Cesare Melloni - Cgil Bologna, Mr. Alessandro Alberani - Cisl Bologna and Mr. Massimo Mangiarotti - expert in public policies for local economic development.

Mr. Romano Volta, not only opened the doors to his company to host the event but he also put Datalogic's skills and experience, acquired in over 35 years of development beyond Italian boundaries in four continents, at the disposal of the local community. In Mr. Volta's opinion, the global market requests businesses to spread internationally, but at the same time requests them to remember the importance of preserving the bond with their own territory in order to enhance the identity and the culture of the business, with the awareness that the success of a business is strictly bound to its origin and to the places to which it belongs.

The mayor of Calderara pointed out the importance of the public administrator in these times of crisis, who shall create the best conditions for renewal in her/his territory through tax incentives, infrastructures and, more generally speaking, services to businesses. "Industrial and small companies - she highlighted - will only be able to grow again by working together side by side, at all levels".

During the debate, the importance of innovation was recollected, in terms of the product and of business management, likewise for the ability to realize current changes and future perspectives. As for the public administration departments, the need to innovate the administrative approach arose, by improving the typical functions of the local authority through planned and programmed actions and by cooperating with all those involved across the territory.

The expected results and predictions for 2010. Gian Paolo Fedrigo, CEO of Datalogic Mobile recently updated us on these topics.

“The business of Datalogic Mobile – Fedrigo explained – suffered from the heavy crisis that hit this field of the ADC market throughout the whole of 2009, but we are hopeful for the future because our market share is stable and the company ended the year positively, thanks also to the esteemed and constant support of partners and customers”. “We noticed an initial rebound in June – he continued – September was our biggest month in bookings in the past three years. A nice surprise after the weak first five months, which gives us hope and enables us to keep an optimistic outlook".

This success is thanks to the strategies and specific actions that Datalogic put in place last year to face up to the crisis that hit the international market heavily.
“In 2009 we “right-sized” the company to match our sales - Fedrigo pointed out – but we also strengthened our marketing efforts. The aim is to be closer to our partners and customers. Customer intimacy is a big focus for Datalogic. We put in place a number of new tools, for example, we launched a new channel program. The authoritative American magazine Business Solutions gave Datalogic an award for being the “Best Channel Vendor” for two years running, in 2009 and in 2010: the esteemed designation came from praising reseller and distributor feedback.

“In addition – Fedrigo explained - Datalogic Mobile strengthened its Website to enable users and partners to contact us 24/7, and launched an innovative Online Order system.
Another part of the changes included an increase of about 15% in R&D spending”. Our success will be from the hard work we did in 2009 during one of the toughest economic times in our history”.
How will Datalogic approach the coming months therefore? “We will look carefully at the worldwide market – he continued – also because not all countries are recovering from the recession at the same rate and in the same way”. The U.S. economy is rebounding earlier than European economies generally speaking, Italy, Germany, France and the UK are recovering quicker than some of their European counterparts and the Asian economies don’t seem to be growing as quickly as they were.
“Today, to be able to look towards the future optimistically – Fedrigo ended – businesses must be flexible, well prepared and nimble in reacting to the market, while always being focused on the long-term plan.

Bologna, Italy, December 2, 2009 - The event entitled "Shaping Our Future Together" held in Bologna at the Paladozza sports building on December 2nd was attended by roughly six hundred employees of Datalogic Group Italy.
The important end-of-year meeting featured a rich agenda of initiatives and was dedicated to all the employees of Datalogic Group in Italy, who reached Bologna by coach from all over Italy.
The event was an excellent opportunity for all those attending to share the activities of 2009 of all the companies of the Group as well as the results expected and the plans for the future.

Following the welcome buffet, the CEO of Datalogic S.p.A., Mauro Sacchetto, took the stand. During his speech, he said "we are here to share what has been of our past, our present day and to discuss our future. This year was an arduous one for the whole market at a worldwide level and, Datalogic too, just like everyone else, was not saved from the sufferings of this abysmal economic crisis. It is for this reason that we wished to and had to make some changes, implementing extraordinary activities and fulfilling specific structural actions. We are happy to be able to say that today, the results can indeed be seen". Even if the Group's turnover was substantially balanced over the various quarters of 2009, the third quarter of this year did actually mark a clear improvement". "I think I can safely say - Mr. Sacchetto continued - that the worse is over and that we should be proud of what we have managed to do over this difficult year by making the right decisions. Datalogic is today a more solid vessel, capable of sailing in less deeper seas. We are therefore ready to win, all together, the challenges of a demanding market, facing next year better and with fewer worries and great confidence".

Romano Volta, Chairman of Datalogic S.p.A., took over to say: "I am delighted to be here with you today and I am satisfied with how Datalogic has reacted to this penetrating crisis of the international market. Rather than standing still we reacted skilfully and promptly. Datalogic has redesigned itself intelligently and methodically, thanks to proficient people and to the sacrifice and extraordinary commitment of everyone. 2010 will still be an arduous year, but Datalogic must look to the future with serenity because following this year just about to end, we are ready, prepared and well positioned to face the challenges that the new year will put before us".

The event also highlighted the actions of the CEO's of the various divisions of Datalogic Group: Lamberto Girolomoni, Datalogic Automation CEO, Gian Paolo Fedrigo, Datalogic Mobile CEO and Bill Parnell, Datalogic Scanning CEO.

Some awards and acknowledgements were also presented during the event. Up front was the team of inventors thanks to whom Datalogic, that has always invested in innovation, is able to boast a rich portfolio of patents - 867 worldwide - and an average of over 20 new products each year (27 new product developments just last year alone, amidst new lines of products, new models and technological innovations). A vocation towards innovation that won Datalogic the 2009 edition of the much esteemed "Business Innovation Prize".

Alessandro Merati, HR Director of Datalogic S.p.A. together with Mr. Mauro Sacchetto and Mr. Romano Volta, later awarded Mr. Claudio Mazzone for his 11 patents, together with numerous other professionals for their 25 and 35 years of career at Datalogic. Mr. Merati also introduced and welcomed the new arrivals of the Group and then invited the professionals of Datalogic onto the stage who retired over the year to show his appreciation.
Finally, after thanking everyone who attended, the event ended with an enormous Datalogic cake and toast to wish each and all a very merry Christmas.

Bologna, Italy, October 2009 - Over sixty project technicians of machines and of electrical equipment for machines/systems and manufacturers of electrical control cabinets, as well as maintenance foremen, attended the seminar entitled "Machine Directive 2006/42/CE and standards EN ISO 13849-1, EN IEC 62061. A new approach to the functional safety of machinery". The event, organized by Datalogic Automation, in collaboration with the partner Sangroup from Monteveglio (an industrial consultancy enterprise that specializes in the analysis and planning of "integrated safety measures" for industrial systems and machinery), took place on Tuesday, October 27th in the impressive settings of the Industrial Heritage Museum in Bologna.

The seminar was successful also in view of the current topic involving industrial safety and was attended by specialists of this industry who work for major manufacturers of automatic machinery. Speakers were Dr. Andrea Brunetti from Sangroup and Eng. Raffaele Tomelli from Datalogic Automation.

The meeting not only covered the new directives on the topic of machinery safety, but also illustrated the project denominated "Sempreanorma" (always compliant): an innovative service available on the website www.sempreanorma.it that enables the complete traceability of the product, creating a direct link with the end user of the barrier and the manufacturer. Thanks to this service, the end user of the safety component is indeed assisted by a remote maintenance service that leads to minimizing maintenance costs, maximizing system efficiency and "safeguarding" oneself in the case of accidents from a legal point of view..

The 2009 edition of the "Marconi Symposium" took place in Bologna on the 9th October, the top event of the rich celebrative program for the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize won by Guglielmo Marconi in 1909. During the event - organised by the Guglielmo Marconi Fellowship Foundation in collaboration with the Marconi Society and with the participation of the National Federation of the Knights of Industry, Mr. Romano Volta, chairman of Datalogic S.p.A., Knight of Industry and member of the "Marconi society" Board gave his speech.

This year the symposium, being the climax of the rich program of celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awarded to Guglielmo Marconi, aimed at discussing the theme of innovation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), counting on the participation of numerous scientists and businessmen, among whom indeed was Romano Volta, who have held leading roles in the actual innovation of ICT.
"I am grateful to the Board of the "Marconi Society" of which I am honoured to be a member - was Mr. Volta's introduction to his speech entitled "A World Hearing Itself: An Italian Midsummer Night's Dream" - for having chosen Bologna yet again for this important event; especially this year, which marks the hundredth anniversary of the assignment of the Nobel Prize to Guglielmo Marconi".

The chairman of Datalogic spoke of the personage of Guglielmo Marconi, "a great scientist, who did not stop at his own invention, but who skilfully excelled further, conferring continuity to scientific intuition with industrial projects, transferring awareness to the enterprise".
"As a businessman myself - Mr. Volta said - I am fascinated by his personage and above all by the perfect fusion that he expertly created between Science, Research and Industrial Application. In fact, he combined these elements with an extraordinary international foresight of business.
Mr. Volta also pointed out the topicality of Marconi, inventor and businessman, and the remarkable importance of radio communications in our daily lives: important aspects that should not be neglected by today's generations, and neither by those of the future.
"We, as businessmen - Mr. Volta continued - should be eternally grateful to this great man for what he has taught us: 100 years on, if we wish to continue developing our enterprises, we should indeed pursue the exact model that he revealed to us".

Mr. Volta ended his speech with good hopes for the economic development of Bologna and Italy, especially in these times of crisis. "Half a century ago, people and enterprises of our country, who and which grew up in a small provincial context - Mr. Volta explained - expertly made their mark around the world, creating what has been defined as the Italian miracle. This was achieved thanks to their ability to research matters that were then unknown, to communicate with faraway countries, different cultures, to create innovation, improvement and development". Faced with the heavy global crisis that the world is attempting to overcome, the chairman of Datalogic stated his hopes. "we must all get involved - he ended - to create the conditions for this micro universe under the two towers of Bologna, homeland of Irnerio, Malpighi, Luigi Galvani and Guglielmo Marconi to be able to express a renewed centrality, capable of directing the new economic dimension of our region and from here of the whole country".

Bologna, Italy, September 2009 - The authoritative American magazine "Business Solutions" specialised in the IT channel, named Datalogic Scanning, a division of Datalogic Group, as the winner of the "Best Channel Products" award in both the "Handheld Mobile Scanners" and "POS Bar Code Scanner" categories with its products PowerScan PM 8300 and Magellan 8500.

Outstanding success for the company from Bologna that won these awards with an impressive two products and, what's more, in two different categories, on the American market that focuses on innovation, on the quality of the products sold, on their performance and on the service offered. The questionnaire was drawn-up by the Business Solutions magazine in collaboration with the Penn State University in such a way to guarantee polling integrity in terms of statistical accuracy and the most reliable result possible.

Over 20.000 polling participants, of whom 2.000 were resellers, voted Datalogic's products as the best in terms of efficiency, durability and reliability compared to rival manufacturers. The PowerScan PM 8300 unit in particular was voted by the Value Added Resellers as the most rugged handheld scanner on the market and the Magellan 8500 unit as the most reliable checkout scanner overall.

The Magellan product has by now been enjoying success for over thirty years. Magellan 8500 is indeed the direct descendant of the first bar code scanner devised 35 years ago in America, by Spectra Physics, later known as PSC and currently as Datalogic. Way back in 1974, the code of a packet of Wrigley Juicy Fruit was read by the first-ever Magellan checkout bar code scanner, Model A, in the Marsh a Troy supermarket in Ohio, emitting the very first typical noise known worldwide as the "beep". It is indeed this first 'beep' that now enables Datalogic to confirm that it was a pioneer of the automatic data capture market and now to be known as the leader of this market.

"We consider it a great honour - Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic Group, pointed out - to be acknowledged as the leader of the market by our American Business Partners. This award is further proof that Datalogic's products have always managed to meet the requirements of the market and of its customers, thanks above all to ongoing investments in Research & Innovation and to our ability in analysing and interpreting market changes".

To read more about the Datalogic 35th Scanniversary, read the article "Bar Code Scanning, the Conception of an Industry" in the edition of July 31, 2009 of The DATA CAPTURE Report that you can find in our Media Center, Articles.

The United States Postal Service, USPS®, has chosen the company from Bologna as its supplier of scanners for mail sorting centres throughout the whole federal territory

Bologna, Italy, July 2009 - Datalogic Group, through its subsidiary, Datalogic Automation, and USPS®, the American Postal Service, have signed an agreement in which Datalogic Automation will supply scanners to the postal sorting centres throughout the federal territory.

The company from Bologna won an extensive competition between top producers of barcode scanners, becoming the supplier of the cutting edge scanner imager Matrix 400TM, which will be used in material handling systems that process letter trays and flat tubs.

The main solution involves a scanner Matrix 400TM and a connection box CBX500 and can be connected through 2 configurations: Front - Back and Top - Front - Back. These variables offer the USPS® maximum flexibility in setting-up all kinds of sorting lines.

Matrix 400TM is a highly customizable scanner capable of reading multiple codes at high speed. It can also be easily integrated into many networks and communication protocols, guaranteeing exceptional performance and considerable reductions in costs and management times.

Mauro Sacchetto, CEO of Datalogic S.p.A., commented:
"This new agreement proves, yet again, Datalogic's skills in offering the whole world around innovative products and technological solutions to meet the requirements of its customers. The American postal service is a vast and articulated reality in need of technologies capable of managing multiform data and of speeding-up sorting processes. Datalogic's solutions meet these requirements just perfectly, making us a reliable and competent partner. We do not however intend to finish here and this is why we work and invest in R&D to continue in this direction".

Mr. Sacchetto commented “I was attracted by two distinctive features of Datalogic: its technological vocation and strong internationalisation”

Bologna, Italy, 6 July 2009 - Mauro Sacchetto, Chief Executive Officer of Datalogic S.p.A., has just reached his first 100 days working for the company. 50 years old, Degree in Physics at the University of Milan (Italy), new Chief Executive Officer of Datalogic Group since last April Mr. Sacchetto has acquired comprehensive and proficient International experience in complex and qualified multinational enterprises that operate in Telecommunications, Electronics, Microelectronics and Information Technology, where he managed companies operating in Europe (Bull Compuprint, Monsanto and Pirelli) and in USA (Intel and Monsanto).

"I was attracted by two distinctive features of Datalogic - Mr. Sacchetto commented - Its technological vocation and strong internationalization. These aspects suit my perdurable career inspirations just perfectly. I have always worked for companies where technology played an important role and, at the end of my first months in Datalogic, my expectations in this sense have been fully satisfied". "I had a positive sensation for Datalogic's team right from word go - Mr. Sacchetto continued. The management's specific skills are very high and the impression is that of a truly close and tenacious team. In two months I interviewed 72 employees, with the aim to get closer and involve the middle management especially".

"My entrance in the Group coincided with a market contraction and a worldwide crisis. Notwithstanding the negative scenario Datalogic is an extremely solid company able to minimize the crisis impact. No market share have been lost and this is obviously an evident confirmation. Only a winning team has the ability to face the international market, even more so in these times of worldwide crisis. A team is a winner when it realises and firmly believes in the company's targets - Mr. Sacchetto pointed out - this is why it is important to clarify all the goals to be pursued and this can only be ensured through a tenacious and constant in-house communication system in order to inform all the employees and get them actively involved. The use of technology must subsequently be further propagated to provide in-house and out-of-house services (training courses, seminars, update briefings…) to boost know-how and skills: I firmly believe that an efficient information system creates motivations and makes the difference in a company that aims at excellence".

"It is essential - Mr. Sacchetto added - to be up and ready when the economy begins to grow again. We will consequently continue to invest in Research and Development. Finally, I would like to see more women managers occupying decision-making roles. I am convinced that women have much to offer thanks to their force in obtaining results and in their inborn organizational abilities".

Eugene, US, June 22, 2009 - Success for the charity event held in aid of children "Datalogic Fun Run Charity Challenge" organised by Datalogic Scanning, Inc., a company of Datalogic Group. The event took place on the 20th of June at the premises of Datalogic Scanning in Eugene, Oregon (US).

The event was organised in collaboration with the charity association "Eugene Active 20-30 Club", which has been taking care of children and their needs in the area of Eugene and Springfield for over eighty years. The challenge registered 180 male and female participants of all ages, employees of Datalogic and members of no-profit organisations, "help the children" volunteer associations and local schools. The fun-filled race/walk covered 5 miles around the area surrounding the complex of Datalogic Scanning.

Kiddies too joined in the enjoyment in the fun under 8's "Kid's Run", but also in other colourful activities, entertainments, face painting, music, snacks and much more.

The "Charity Challenge" raised funds that will be used to help children, to sustain schools and parks for younger children.

The event, which has reached its third edition, proves Datalogic's awareness towards the needs of organisations and schools, which in these times of economic crisis, have very few resources available to dedicate to educational services and to social-recreation activities for children and their needs. To ensure the initiative's success, which each year receives growing approval and participation, the support of employees of Datalogic Scanning was fundamental, who fostered the initiative enthusiastically, contributing significantly in the success of the "Charity Challenge".
This last edition was so successful that Datalogic Scanning will organise the event again next year, with renewed enthusiasm and even more participants.

Bologna, Italy, 27 May 2009 - Straightforward, quick and precise, these are the features of the new On Line Order system of Datalogic Mobile, a company of Datalogic Group: an innovative approach to order management with which the company responds and anticipates the requirements of its Partners in terms of the self-service management of interactive services, guaranteeing availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With the aim to offer constantly up-to-date and cutting edge services, Datalogic Mobile has indeed implemented an innovative approach to managing orders. This new service derives from the growing need of its Partners to avail of a self-service and interactive order management system. The new on line order system is part of the recently announced "New Value Channel Program". The service is accessed with a simple click of the mouse within the new EASEOFSERVICE on line tool: it takes just a few seconds to place an order and receive information in real time!

And that's not all! Datalogic Mobile offers each Partner the possibility to choose among special offers or individual items, saving time and reducing paperwork.
What's more, each Partner can check its own "Price List" and continue working, generating new orders with another simple click of the mouse.

So what benefits does this new on line order system offer? First and foremost, all the information is available in real time thanks to a direct connection to the company management system - SAP. For example, the delivery date is immediately available, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Other benefits are offered by the increased flexibility and some important options that the system provides. Each Partner can create a new address to forward the shipment directly to the end customer, request different delivery dates for the various items listed in the order, request a number of deliveries to be grouped into one single shipment and add notes to each item of the order.

Bologna, Italy, May 2009 - Thanks to the technology developed by NeXT and Datalogic Mobile, the forthcoming edition of the "1000 Miglia" race - which is a unique symbol worldwide of the amazing passion for cars, experienced as an adventure, excitement and discovery - will indeed offer all participants a priceless and innovative service aimed at guaranteeing their safety and the consequent rapid and optimum management of all types of emergency.

NeXT, a partner of Datalogic Mobile, will indeed install an "On Board Unit (OBU) on all the vintage cars taking part in the race, thanks to which the car's location can be traced in real time, following its route and performance directly from the website www.1000miglia.eu.

In order to manage all the consignment, installation, control, removal, assessment and storage operations of all the OBUs throughout the race quickly and error-free, NeXT has developed a solution based on the Datalogic Memor™ system- the cutting edge pocket-size Mobile Computer with Windows technology and laser reader - that identifies the OBUs by automatically capturing the serial number, by reading the bar code, and integrates the information with the data input using the touch screen display.

The information sent in real time from all the OBUs is processed by NeXT servers and is exploited to create the innovative service to follow the whole race in real time. In the case of mechanical or physical emergencies, the competitor simply presses the dedicated button on the OBU, which immediately sends the signal to the main control station: the latter then informs the race management department and emergency vehicle personnel equipped with Datalogic Mobile PDAs of the problem in real time. Finally, on the display of the Datalogic Mobile PDA, all the information required to manage the emergency is displayed immediately (type of problem, car location, car details etc.).
